Our task – Create a world class email editor for one of the largest marketing platforms.
Working with ExactTarget (now Salesforce Marketing Cloud), a multi-channel marketing platform, we were tasked with creating a world class email editing experience. The project started with desk based research where we did competitor analysis. We then created interaction pattern models to describe the possibilities of editing different types content.
Initial Research

Competitive Analysis
We looked at 6 of ExactTarget's primary competitors to understand how their editors were solving the functionality issues that we were trying to address in the ExactTarget’s Editor. In these screens you can see how we broke down the primary features and then how we attempted to normalize the content so that was consistent between each of the comparisons.
Modeling the Experience
Interaction Patterns
Based on our research we knew the current proposal from the product team could be improved upon so we created this thumbnail models to help explain who the interactions could be improved.
Flows and Structure
We described some high level flows to ensure we were aligned. The structure models show the stacked inheritance of how the content would relate to the underlying containers.
